The Beginning of Time - July 20, 2008

Louie L'Amour, the dapper Master of Ceremonies at The Coral Sands, bought a one-way ticket on the last train West in the early hours of Sunday Morning, Coming Down. He was 21 years old.

Surveying his property, as he did at sunrise every morning, L'Amour, who was deaf and going blind, fell into the pool and slipped away. Befitting the occasion, the desert skies in July tore open and wept, flooding arroyos, taking out traffic lights, and washing the ancient sands, the skies wept, wept, wept at the loss of Louie the Love.

He is survived by his pet Ruby Montana, his bitches Lola and Dusty, a dozen stray cats, and the enduring Sands. The finest Chihuahua ever to play the game or run a motel, Louie was beloved by literally thousands or perhaps even millions. His gifts were in reverse proportion to his size and, in fact, cannot even be measured. Friends gathered throughout the day to comfort Ms. Montana.

May all the Saints embrace him, choirs of angels sing upon his arrival. We know God is smiling upon our Louis -- restored to his youthful vigor and handsomeness, he is working the perimeter in the Great Beyond.

I am very happy to be here now with Billie Holiday and Gina Lola Bridgita ...I was on the run for a full 12 hours and it was 109 degrees. My feet were soaked in Salt Water because I burned all of my pads. I was very dehydrated and super hungry. I have been sleeping alot since my return.

The transformation is mind blowing...8 tons of 3/4 white rock lining the perimeter of The Sands in place of grass...It looks so bright and cheery and cool...like snow...I purchased a number of Ocotillos and harvested palms that were small but already on the property...it is a major improvement.

I am removing all grass at The Coral Sands and replacing it with white rock and desert plantings. This is a very labor intensive job but worthwhile, I believe.

The central twin palms at The Coral Sands birthed two babies this year and I am harvesting them to be planted on the perimeter of the property where there used to be junipers...I took down 7 or 8 giant junipers and am making an effort to go Green. I am removing all grass and going to desert plantings...palm trees, palo verde trees...ocotillo...etc. It will be lovely and covered with 8 tons of white rock.

Last night Julie, Anna and myself dined at Daveys Hideaway...They have a limited time here at The Sands as they are on a mission. Old friend Jan Dyer...attorney, Seattle...was in a serious auto accident in Joshua Tree a month or so ago and is unable to fly home...these good buddies came to her rescue...rented an RV and are taking Jan home...You go girls and HURRY BACK!!! Pam Weishaar didn't arrive until about 12 midnight last night...she drove the RV down from Seattle...
