Howdy, folks, and welcome to the Coral Sands -- the most authentic mid-century motel in old Las Palmas Palm Springs. This exquisite vintage motel has stayed true to its original 1952 design and feel while accomodating the needs of 21st century guests.
I hope you enjoy our story!
XOXO, Ruby Montana
Did Michael Richards play the Coral Sands? Did everybody run outta there so fast it sucked the water out of the pool? Not at all, my friend. This is the start of something big.
If you loved the pool at the Coral Sands before, you are in for a treat.
Look at that Frosty Go! These chaps covered with white dust are blasting our precious pool with millions of tiny glass beads that will erode the surface down to the granite. "WTF?" you say. We're talking total rehab here. In just a few days, visitors to The Sands will be enjoying the eighth wonder of the known world -- the PERFECT Palm Springs pool. Newly resurfaced, regrouted, and painted, this fabulous pool will combine the chic styling of its 1950s origins with the latest in modern techno-pool. Our completely new heater will keep the water perfect for your swim.
Here's Ruby with some friends at Rick's -- the place to see and be seen at breakfast. The season is off to a fabulous start as artists, writers, revelers, and nomads pour into the desert oasis for watering and story swapping.
Our adorable man of The Sands, Mr. Louis Lamour, (aka Pumpkin, Littlest, Lu Lu,) will turn an astounding 20 years old this New Year's Day. Keep him in your thoughts as you google football and eat black eyed peas on that day.
Stop by for a little celebration of Milanos and beer...Louie's only food the first year of his life and, perhaps, the secret to his longevity.
Excitement is ablaze at The Sands in anticipation of Ginny Ruffner's arrival. Ginny, a renown glass artist, makes a pilgrimage every year here when he show is installed at Imago Gallery in Palm Desert. Her entourage generally does a takeover of the resort. This year her show is Saturday, January 20,2006. Be sure to put this on your calendar...it is not to be missed!
Friends of The Coral Sands will be happy to note that we have a new arrival here. Her name is Dusty Springfield. Dusty was pushed out of a car in Emporia, Kansas, when Ruby was there this September settling her family's estate. She has made the journey home with welcome greetings. It is not at all true that Dusty is the love child of Chewbacca and Carrie Fisher. She is a pure bred Yorkie and about two years old. She is a scrappy little girl, as she lived pretty close to the streets in her previous life.
Today (November 14, 2006) is the lst Anniversary of the passage of my dear sweet daddy, Mel. At high noon a small ceremony was conducted poolside as I tossed a pinch of Mel in the water. (I had always tried to get him in the pool and failed...he was a farm boy from Oklahoma and saw swimming as too leisure an activity.)
Mel lived at the Sands for the last year of his life and everyone who met him was charmed by his wit and gracious interest in who they were and what they did. He was a lovely guy and we miss him.
Every visit to the Coral Sands is magical in its own way. This little pup was found wandering the streets of downtown Palm Springs and was quickly reeled in to the Sands' safe haven.
Pals Joanie and Rebecca love the desert golf scene around Palm Springs. Here they are at Mission Hills, one of over a hundred fine golf courses in the Coachella Valley for you to enjoy!
This is Lola, the Coral Sands' Yorkiehuahua. Lola is our first responder. When you ring the gate bell, I guarantee you Lola will be the first one on the scene.
Disclaimer: She may or may not be wearing her little pink dress.
